In this article, I will review 3 Hand History – All Pot 3 Bets where the hero has ACES or King Ace – posted by UPSWing lab members. I will also use the help of breakers to dive deeper into each hand and exemplify how professional poker player approaches learn hands. Let’s get started!

Hand 1 – Three Broadway Madness
(If you are a member of the upswing lab, you can find this post and discussion here.) Hand:

bad gambling
Preflop analysis.
3-bets have so far been the best choice. We have strong hands who want to get value.
FLOP analysis.
– Board: a k
– Hero Hands: A K
This triple broadway board is very good for 3-bettor. Even the weakest hand in its range has around 50% equity to the range of players out of position. When this problem is, the best way to approach this place is to bet a very small size with the whole range. Small size forces the opponent to multiply or continue with many hands that are hard to play. See how solvers will approach the place, to get a visual representation of the strategy that I recommend. The orange-pink bright color represents a bet of around 20% of the pot. Solver chose the size on one of the other bets that I had to offer (25% -33% -50% -75%), and it did it with each hand in the range of almost 100% frequency. This is a pivotal moment. The rest of the road is played well with the hand it has.
RESULTS
The opponent calls the river push with AQ (inferior two pairs) and Hero dragging a nice 270BB pot.
Hand 2 – Problems in with Aces
(If you are a member of the upswing lab, you can find this post and discussion here.)
Preflop analysis.
Like the previous hand, this is a 3-bet mandatory to increase the size of the pot.
Failure
– Board: k 7 3
– Hero Hands: A A
Here we have other scenarios where the massive failure is beneficial for 3-bettor – it has around 65% equity in the pot. Similar to the previous example, but not at the same level, a very small bet (25-30% pot) with all its staff is the preferred strategy, even with an inner 200BB pile. Larger bets only allow criminals to fold a ton of their ruins without impact, while also forcing players in a position to check the decent amount of return (which allows criminals to realize more equity). Thus, a large bet allows his opponent to realize equity with all his staff. Look at how solvers approach a failed strategy:
After grew up, Eddy must have to call and look at his turn. His hands were too strong to consider folding into a check increase, especially given that he could even dominate some of his opponent’s value ranges (like AK).
Turn
– Board: k 7 3 4
– Hero Hands: A A
As is played, turn is also a mandatory call (waiting for a reliable readability crazy that the opponent is very tight). If Eddy does not have a flush draw to go with its overpair, however, the best to fold it immediately because many of his opponent’s range has increased to flush or straight on this card.
River
– Board: K 7 3 4 2
– Hero Hands: A A
Eddy had to be relieved here when his opponent check. Bets are not recommended even though it has a lot of equity to the checking range. Simply put, he will not be called by a weaker hand often enough to make this bet for value. Plus, his opponent may still have a set or straight who is too afraid to bet himself.
RESULTS
Eddy pushed his river and his opponent calling with a series of Threes.
Hand 3 – Pocket Rocket Face Triple Threats
(If you are a member of the upswing lab, you can find this post and discussion here.)
Preflop.
Like the last hand, Charlie has a required 3-bet value with the best value at the Hold’em unlimited unlimited Universe.
Failure
– Board: 9 4 2
– Hero Hands: A A
These low clips have a critical difference in high card clips: there are many two hands that are too high with equity in the caller range. It forces players out of the position to use a larger bet size to force as much as possible from the hand to fold. Because of an increase in betting size, 3-bettor is also forced to play a more polarized strategy. This is the consequence of the opponent to fold more than its reach, so that the 3-bettor is forced to bet with a stronger value range.
(In other words, if they call with a stronger range, you have to bet with a stronger value range). Check what will be chosen by breakers because of the preferred bet size: Indigo color represents a 75% pot bet, and it’s the size that is most often taken by a significant margin. As played, our members can be 3-bet or call flops. Both options are fine in theory. Personally, I believe that 3-bets work best in practice because the average opponents have a check range that is driven by equity. We want to take advantage of our value directly. Calling has the same eV with 3-bet, so I won’t consider this call by Charlie as a mistake.
Turn
– Board: 9 4 2 T
– Hero Hands: A A
The round card is quite interesting because it opens a lot of backdoor lottery like KQ / KJ / QJ. There is a lot of equity to be rejected now. At the same time, check-up-shoving here will not be pure value bets because it will not be called by hand more than 50% worse. Other data points for calculating here are the fact that our hero holds a club ace club. It blocks a group of semi-bluff opponents (a 5, a 3, a Q, a J, etc.) which means that it can reject less equity, thus making a less attractive increase. I think the round call is the right decision.
River
– Board: 9 4 2 T k
– Hero Hands: A A
One of the worst cards on the hit deck. Many draws, like Q J, Q J, 8 7, 7 6, 6 5, has been completed. With a reverse blocker (unblocking the mur flush that I mentioned before) and there is no domination of value (because the opponent will not push his hand like KQ or KJ), our members must just put satisfied and feel satisfied.
